This work is part of a series using the silhouettes of distinctive leaves as its subject. A full-scale copy of an actual leaf was collaged onto the panel, then worked over with acrylic paint, pencil, colored pencil, and crayon.

The leaf used here is Phlebodium bluestar — a plant known for its calm, silver-green tone and sculptural form. In this painting, only its shape was taken: the silhouette alone, lifted out of its color and placed into a new context.
