In my late teens, when I was just beginning to learn about painting, I spent much of my time photographing moss growing on walls — using the first SLR camera my father had passed on to me.

Those photographs are gone now. But I wanted to find them again through painting, following memory back to what I had seen. This is the only painting I have made of moss, yet moss remains one of the most important sources of inspiration behind everything I make.
