I always work by feel. Not toward a predetermined image, but searching — finding out what I want only through the act of painting itself.

Time is the material I use most. Each stage is left to settle, slowly. This painting moved through many passes: a yellow-green ground, collage, paint, scraping back, painting again, scraping again. Through that unhurried repetition, this quiet blue remained.
